Is your self assessment on track?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear, personalised next step based on your situation as a sole trader.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From registering for self assessment to filing your return and planning ahead, I take the whole process off your plate.

01

Self Assessment Tax Return

I prepare and file your self assessment return with HMRC, working through your income, allowable expenses and any tax reliefs you qualify for. You send me your figures, I do the rest. Your return is filed accurately and on time, every year.

02

Sole Trader Tax Planning

There are expenses and reliefs many sole traders miss simply because nobody has walked them through what they can legitimately claim. I review your position before filing and make sure your tax bill is as low as it should be. This is included as part of the service, not charged as an add-on.

03

Bookkeeping and Record Keeping

Keeping clean, organised records through the year makes self assessment straightforward and reduces the risk of errors or HMRC enquiries. I can set you up on cloud accounting software such as QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Xero, and handle your monthly bookkeeping personally if you need it. From April 2026, sole traders earning over £50,000 will need to meet Making Tax Digital requirements, and I can guide you through that too.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

A one-to-one service means you always know who is handling your accounts and can reach them when it matters.

You deal with me directly, every time

There are no junior staff, no handoffs and no explaining your situation to a different person each year. I handle every client personally, so I know your business and your numbers. When you ring or email, I pick it up.

Fixed fees, no surprise bills

You know the cost before we start. My fees are fixed, so there is no meter running every time you ask a question. That means you can contact me during the year without worrying about an unexpected invoice.

Same-day responses when you need them

Tax questions do not always arrive at convenient times. If something comes up, I respond the same day. You do not wait a week for a reply that sends you back to square one.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Four straightforward steps from first contact to your return being filed with HMRC.

01

Book a free call

We have a short, no-obligation call so you can tell me about your situation as a sole trader. I will explain exactly what I need from you, what the process looks like and give you a fixed fee. No jargon, no pressure.

02

Send me your information

You pull together your income and any records of expenses for the year. I will give you a clear checklist so you know exactly what to find. If your records are incomplete or disorganised, do not worry, we will work through it.

03

I prepare your return

I review everything, calculate your tax liability, check for any expenses or reliefs you might have missed and prepare your self assessment return. You receive a summary to review and approve before anything is submitted.

04

Filed with HMRC, confirmed to you

Once you are happy, I file your return directly with HMRC. You receive written confirmation and a clear breakdown of what you owe and when. I am available if any questions come back from HMRC afterwards.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes, if you are self-employed as a sole trader and earn more than £1,000 in a tax year, you are required to register for self assessment and file a tax return with HMRC. This applies even if you also have employment income taxed through PAYE. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, a quick call will give you a clear answer.
As a sole trader, you can claim expenses that are wholly and exclusively for business purposes. Common examples include tools and equipment, software subscriptions, mileage, phone bills, marketing costs and professional fees such as accountancy. Many sole traders under-claim simply because they are not sure what qualifies, which is something I check for every client.
A late return triggers an automatic £100 penalty from HMRC, with further charges if filing is significantly overdue. If your records are incomplete, it is still possible to reconstruct reasonable figures and file. The important thing is to act rather than wait. Contact me and we will work out the most practical way forward for your situation.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax requires sole traders with income over £50,000 to submit quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software, starting from April 2026. If your income is below that threshold, the current self assessment process continues as normal for now. I can tell you exactly where you stand and, if MTD applies to you, get the right software and process in place before the deadline.
