WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From recording transactions to submitting VAT returns, I take the day-to-day bookkeeping work off your plate completely.

01

Monthly and quarterly bookkeeping

I categorise every transaction, reconcile your accounts and produce a clear monthly summary so you know exactly what came in and went out. No spreadsheet chaos, no backlog building up quietly in the background. You get accurate records kept on your behalf, every period.

02

VAT returns and Making Tax Digital compliance

I prepare and submit your VAT returns directly to HMRC through MTD-compatible software, so you never miss a deadline or file a figure you are not sure about. From April 2026, MTD for Income Tax begins for those earning above 50,000 pounds – I make sure you are set up correctly before any deadline arrives. Everything is handled and confirmed with you in plain English.

03

Cloud accounting setup and management

I am a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and FreeAgent partner, and I work across Xero and Sage too. If you do not have software set up yet, I will choose the right one for your business and get it running properly. If you already have software but it is a mess, I will sort it out – not just hand you a login and wish you luck.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

These are the things clients tell me actually matter when you are running a small business.

You always speak to me directly

There are no junior members of staff at Anchor Accounts and Books. When you send a message or pick up the phone, you get me – Luke – the person who actually knows your numbers. That is not something most firms can say, and it makes a real difference when you have a question that needs a straight answer quickly.

Fixed fees with no surprises

You know exactly what you are paying each month before we start. There are no hourly rates creeping up and no invoices arriving out of nowhere after a phone call. A fixed monthly fee means you can plan, and it means you will not hesitate to ask questions when something comes up.

Your books explained in plain English

I do not use jargon to sound impressive. If your profit and loss shows something you do not understand, I explain it clearly – because the point of having accurate books is that they actually help you make decisions. UK small businesses spend an average of 8,500 pounds per employee on compliance costs. Good bookkeeping from the start reduces that burden significantly.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your bookkeeping sorted is a straightforward process – most clients are up and running within a week.

01

Book a free call

We start with a short, no-obligation call where you tell me about your business and I explain exactly what I would do for you. No sales pitch, no jargon. Just a plain conversation about what you need.

02

Share your current setup

You send me access to your existing records – whether that is a spreadsheet, a cloud account or a shoebox of receipts scanned to a folder. I will tell you honestly what state things are in and what needs doing first.

03

I take over and get things straight

I set up or clean up your bookkeeping software, categorise your transactions and bring your records up to date. If there is a backlog, I work through it. You do not need to do anything beyond providing the information I ask for.

04

Ongoing monthly bookkeeping and support

Each month I update your books, flag anything that needs your attention and answer any questions you have – usually the same day. Your VAT returns are prepared and submitted on time, and your records are always ready when you need them.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes – this is more common than you might think. Most people who contact me have not kept their records up to date, and many are months behind. I will go through what you have, identify what is missing and bring everything up to date without making you feel judged for where things are. Messy books are fixable.
Not necessarily. I am a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and FreeAgent partner, and I also work in Xero and Sage. If you do not have anything set up, I will recommend the right option for your size and type of business. If you already use something, I will work with it where I can.
Fees depend on the volume of transactions and what you need each month. I work on fixed monthly fees so you always know the cost upfront – there are no hourly rates or surprise invoices. The best way to get an accurate figure is to book a free call and tell me about your business.
If you are a sole trader or landlord with income over 50,000 pounds, MTD for Income Tax applies from April 2026. The threshold drops to 30,000 pounds in April 2027 and 20,000 pounds in April 2028. I make sure every client I work with is using MTD-compatible software and filing correctly well before any deadline – it is part of what I do as standard.
