WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From reconciling your transactions to filing the return with HMRC, I take the whole process off your plate each quarter.

01

Quarterly VAT Return Preparation and Filing

I log into your accounting software, review and reconcile your transactions for the period, and prepare your VAT return figures. Once you are happy, I file directly to HMRC via Making Tax Digital-compliant software. You get confirmation it is done, with nothing outstanding.

02

VAT Records and Bookkeeping Review

Before filing, I check your records for common issues — miscoded transactions, missing input VAT, incorrect treatment of exempt or zero-rated sales. Catching these early means your return is accurate and you are not overpaying or under-claiming. I use QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage depending on what you already have.

03

Ongoing VAT Advice and Deadline Management

VAT rules change. I keep track of your obligations and let you know about anything that affects your return before it becomes a problem. You also get direct access to me for any VAT questions that come up between filings — no waiting for a callback from someone who does not know your account.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every quarter

There are a lot of accountants who offer VAT services — here is what makes working with me different in practice.

You speak to the person doing your return

I handle every VAT return personally. There are no junior staff, no handoffs, and no one learning on the job with your account. When you have a question, you get a straight answer from the qualified accountant who actually knows your figures.

Fixed fees with no surprises

You know what you are paying before we start. There are no per-hour billing shocks if a return takes longer than expected, and no additional charge for asking questions. A fixed fee means the service is predictable, which makes budgeting straightforward.

Same-day responses when deadlines are close

VAT deadlines do not move. If something comes up in the week before your filing date, I respond the same day. Clients tell me this is one of the things they value most — knowing they are not going to be left waiting when it matters.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your VAT returns off your plate is straightforward from the first call.

01

Book a free call

We have a short, no-obligation call where I ask about your business, your current VAT setup and which software you use. I will tell you exactly what I need from you and what the fixed fee will be. No pressure, no obligation.

02

I review your records

You give me read access to your accounting software. I check your transaction history for the current period, flag anything that looks off, and let you know if there are any corrections needed before I prepare the return.

03

I prepare and file your return

Once your records are in order, I prepare the full VAT return and share the figures with you before filing. You confirm you are happy, and I submit directly to HMRC via Making Tax Digital-compliant software. You receive confirmation the same day.

04

I stay on hand between filings

After filing, I remain your point of contact for any VAT questions that come up during the quarter. If HMRC gets in touch about anything, you forward it to me and I deal with it. Same-day responses, every time.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

In most cases, I just need read access to your accounting software — QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage. I pull the figures from there, do the reconciliation and prepare the return. If your records need tidying up first, I will tell you exactly what that involves before we start.
Yes. I can pick up your VAT at any point in the year, and I can review previous returns if you are concerned something was filed incorrectly. HMRC allows corrections to be made on a future return for errors below a certain threshold, and I will advise on the right approach depending on your situation.
No. There is no long-term tie-in. Most clients stay because the service works well for them, not because they are locked in. If your circumstances change, you can stop at any time without a penalty.
Since April 2019, VAT-registered businesses above the threshold have been required to keep digital records and file VAT returns using MTD-compatible software. All filings I handle are MTD-compliant by default. If you are not currently using compatible software, I can help you set that up as part of getting started.
