WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From preparing your return to calculating what you owe, I take care of the whole process so you do not have to.

01

Self Assessment Tax Return

I prepare and file your self assessment return with HMRC accurately and on time. Whether you are a sole trader, landlord, contractor or have multiple income sources, I make sure every figure is right and every allowable expense is claimed. You get a clear summary of your tax liability before anything is submitted.

Core service
02

Tax Planning for the Year Ahead

Filing your return is one thing – making sure you are not paying more tax than you need to is another. I look at your income, expenses and circumstances to identify any planning opportunities before the tax year closes. This is included as part of an ongoing relationship, not charged separately as an add-on.

Included year-round
03

Cloud Accounting Setup and Support

If your records are disorganised or still on paper, I can set you up on QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage to make future returns far simpler. As a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and FreeAgent Partner, I choose the right tool for your situation and show you how to use it without jargon. Good records mean fewer questions and a faster return next year.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Three reasons people who have tried DIY or a larger firm end up staying with Anchor Accounts and Books.

You speak to me directly, every time

When you call or message, I pick it up. There is no receptionist, no account manager and no junior passing messages back and forth. You know exactly who is handling your return because it is always me. That consistency makes a real difference when you have an urgent question about an HMRC letter or a deadline.

Fixed fees with no surprise invoices

I agree a fixed fee before any work starts so you know precisely what you are paying. There are no hourly rates ticking in the background and no end-of-year bill that is larger than the estimate. Predictable costs make it easier to budget and remove one more source of stress around tax time.

Plain English from start to finish

I explain your tax position in straightforward terms, not in language that requires a degree to understand. If HMRC sends you something confusing, I tell you exactly what it means and what to do next. You leave every conversation knowing where you stand, not feeling more confused than when you started.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Four straightforward steps from first contact to filed return – no forms to fill in before we have even spoken.

01

Book a free call

We have a short, no-obligation call where I ask about your income, your situation and any concerns you have. You do not need to have your paperwork ready at this stage – just a rough idea of what you earn and where it comes from.

02

I send you a fixed fee quote

Based on what we discuss, I give you a clear, fixed price before any work begins. No hourly rates, no hidden charges. If you want to go ahead, I confirm the details and we get moving.

03

Send me your records

You send me your income and expense information – bank statements, invoices, receipts, whatever you have. I work fully remotely so everything is handled securely online. If your records are not perfectly organised, that is fine – sorting them out is part of the job.

04

Return filed, liability confirmed

I prepare your return, calculate your tax liability and walk you through the figures before submitting to HMRC. You know exactly what you owe and when to pay it, with no last-minute surprises. I remain available afterwards for any follow-up questions.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

HMRC charges an automatic 100 pound penalty for late filing, with further daily charges of 10 pounds after three months. The sooner you file, the sooner those penalties stop building. Get in touch and I will tell you exactly where you stand and what needs to happen next – without any judgement about how it got to this point.
No. I work fully remotely with sole traders, limited companies and contractors across the UK. Being based in Uttoxeter means I understand the local area, but distance is not a barrier – everything is handled online and I communicate the same way whether you are five minutes away or five hours away.
At a minimum, a record of your income and any business expenses for the tax year. That might be bank statements, invoices, receipts, payslips or a combination depending on your situation. If your records are not well organised, bring what you have – getting them into shape is part of what I do.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax becomes mandatory for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above 50,000 pounds from April 2026, dropping to 30,000 pounds from April 2027 and 20,000 pounds from April 2028. If you fall into one of those thresholds, I can set you up on the right software well in advance so the transition is straightforward rather than a last-minute scramble.
