Do you need to file a self assessment this year?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear, personalised next step based on your actual situation.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From checking whether you need to register right through to submission confirmation, I take the self assessment process off your plate entirely.

01

Self Assessment Return Preparation and Filing

I gather your income figures, allowable expenses and any other relevant information, then prepare your return accurately. Once you have reviewed and approved it, I submit directly to HMRC on your behalf. You receive written confirmation when it is filed.

Included in fixed fee
02

Tax Calculation and Liability Review

Before submission I go through your tax calculation with you in plain English, so you know exactly what you owe and why. I also check whether any allowances or deductions have been missed that could reduce your bill legally. No jargon, no assumptions.

Included as standard
03

HMRC Registration and Ongoing Compliance

If you are filing for the first time, I can help you register for self assessment and obtain your Unique Taxpayer Reference. I also keep you informed about upcoming changes, including Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which affects sole traders and landlords earning over 50,000 pounds from April 2026. You will not be caught off guard.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

It is not just about getting the return filed. It is about having someone you can ring when you are worried, not just at year end.

You speak to me, not a member of staff

I run Anchor personally. There are no junior staff, no account managers and no handoffs to someone who does not know your history. When you contact me, I pick up and deal with it that day. That consistency matters when your tax situation changes year on year.

A fixed fee you know before we start

I quote you a fixed fee upfront, before any work begins. That figure covers everything I have described, with no add-ons for questions or follow-up calls. Knowing what you will pay removes one worry from a situation that already has enough of them.

Plain English from someone who understands your situation

I work with sole traders, contractors, freelancers and limited company directors who have all kinds of income to declare. Side income, rental income, capital gains, CIS deductions: I have seen the combinations that catch people out. I explain what is relevant to your return without assuming you already know how the system works.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Four straightforward steps from first contact to a filed return and a copy in your inbox.

01

Book a free call

We spend 20 to 30 minutes on a call so I can understand your situation. I will ask about your income sources, whether you are registered for self assessment already and what records you have. You will leave the call knowing exactly what is needed and what it will cost.

02

Send me your information

I send you a clear list of exactly what I need, tailored to your circumstances. You can share documents securely by email or through a cloud folder. I work fully remotely so this process is straightforward wherever you are in the UK.

03

I prepare and review your return with you

Once I have your information I prepare the return, calculate your tax liability and walk you through the figures in plain English. You confirm you are happy before anything goes to HMRC. If something does not look right, we sort it at this stage.

04

Submitted to HMRC and confirmed

I submit your return directly to HMRC and send you written confirmation once it is filed. You will also have a copy of the submitted return for your own records. The next step after that is simply knowing when your payment is due, which I will remind you about.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

You need to file if you are self-employed and earned more than 1,000 pounds from self-employment in the tax year, if you are a company director, or if you have untaxed income such as rental income, savings interest or a second job. If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies, book a free call and I will tell you clearly, without obligation.
The initial penalty for a late return is 100 pounds, regardless of whether you owe any tax. After three months, daily penalties of 10 pounds per day apply, up to a further 900 pounds. After six months, an additional charge of 5 percent of the tax due or 300 pounds, whichever is higher, is added. Late does not mean lost. The return can still be filed and penalties reduced where there is a reasonable excuse.
I charge a fixed fee agreed upfront before any work starts. The fee depends on the complexity of your income and the records you have available. I will give you a clear quote on our first call, there are no hidden charges and the fee covers the return preparation, submission and any questions you have along the way.
From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above 50,000 pounds must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC under Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. The threshold drops to 30,000 pounds in 2027 and 20,000 pounds in 2028. If this affects you, I can set up the right software and handle the quarterly submissions as part of your ongoing service.
