Is your consultant accounting actually on track?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear, personalised next step based on where you are right now.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

Whether you are a sole trader consultant or operating through a limited company, I cover the accounting tasks that actually matter for your situation.

01

Self Assessment and Accounts

I prepare and file your self assessment tax return or limited company accounts personally. Consulting income is lumpy and project-based, and I make sure it is reported correctly so you pay the right amount and nothing more. Every deadline is tracked and filed on time.

02

Tax Planning for Consultants

There are legitimate ways to reduce your tax as a consultant, from allowable expenses to the right business structure. I look at your position proactively and tell you what options apply to your situation in plain English. No jargon, no surprises at year-end.

03

VAT, Payroll and Bookkeeping

If you cross the VAT threshold or take on staff, I handle registration, quarterly returns and Making Tax Digital submissions. Monthly or quarterly bookkeeping keeps your records clean so your accounts are never a scramble at year-end. Everything runs through cloud software you already know or I set up for you.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Consultants stay because they get a real response from a qualified accountant, not a revolving door of junior staff who do not know their numbers.

You deal with me, not a team

I run Anchor Accounts and Books personally. No handoffs, no juniors, no explaining your situation from scratch every time you call. You get direct access to an AAT Level 4 qualified accountant who knows your accounts inside out. That is the whole point of working with me.

Fixed fees so you always know the cost

You know exactly what you pay before we start. Fixed monthly fees mean no surprise invoices after a busy quarter. If your situation changes, we talk about it first. Consultants who hate financial uncertainty in their own business should not have to deal with it from their accountant.

Fast responses when it actually matters

When a client asks if you are VAT registered or when a payment on account catches you off guard, you need an answer the same day. I reply the same day as standard. That is not a promise on a brochure, it is how I work with every client.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your accounts in order takes four straightforward steps and starts with a free conversation.

01

Book a free call

You book a free call at a time that suits you. We talk through your consulting setup, what you are currently doing with your accounts and what needs to change. No pressure, no sales pitch.

02

I review your position

I look at your business structure, income pattern and current records. I tell you exactly what needs doing, what the fee will be and what software we will use. You get a clear picture before you commit to anything.

03

We get your accounts set up

I set up or take over your cloud accounting software, whether that is QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage. Your records are organised from the start and I handle the transition from wherever you are now.

04

I handle it from here

I take care of your bookkeeping, tax returns, VAT and any other obligations on a fixed monthly fee. You get regular updates, same-day responses to questions and a qualified accountant who knows your numbers year-round.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

It depends on how much consulting income you have and how complicated your position is. Many consultants manage fine with software alone in the early stages. Once you are earning consistently above around 30,000 pounds, the tax planning opportunities and filing complexity usually make a qualified accountant worth the fee several times over.
There is no single right answer. Limited companies can save tax above certain profit levels but bring more admin and filing obligations. Sole trader is simpler and cheaper to run at lower income levels. I look at your actual numbers and give you a straight recommendation rather than a generic answer.
Allowable expenses include home office costs, professional subscriptions, equipment, software, travel for business purposes and marketing costs, among others. What you can claim depends on how your business is set up and how the expenses are used. I review your position and make sure you are claiming everything you are entitled to.
IR35 applies if HMRC would consider you effectively an employee of the client you are working for, despite operating through your own company. The rules apply contract by contract, so two contracts can have different outcomes. I can help you understand your position and what it means for your tax before you sign anything.
