Is your sole trader bookkeeping MTD-ready?

Answer five quick questions and get a clear picture of where your records stand before the next deadline.

WHAT I DO

What I handle on your behalf

From setting up your cloud software to filing your return, I take care of every part of the accounting process so you do not have to piece it together yourself.

01

Self Assessment Tax Returns

I prepare and file your Self Assessment tax return accurately, making sure every allowable expense is captured before submission. You will know exactly what you owe and when, well ahead of the January deadline. No last-minute panic, no guesswork.

Filed on time, every time
02

Cloud Accounting Setup and Management

I set up and manage your cloud accounting using QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage – whichever fits how you work. From April 2026, sole traders earning over £50,000 must use MTD-compatible software, and I make sure yours is compliant from day one. If you already have software in place, I can take it over without starting from scratch.

MTD-compliant setup included
03

Monthly and Quarterly Bookkeeping

I keep your records clean and current throughout the year, so your figures are always accurate when you need them. This means no shoebox of receipts at year-end and no scrambling to reconstruct months of transactions. You stay in control of your numbers without having to maintain them yourself.

WHY IT WORKS

Why clients come back every year

Three things that consistently make the difference for sole traders who have tried doing it alone.

You always speak to me directly

Every question you send goes to me – Luke. Not a call centre, not an assistant, not whoever happens to pick up the phone. I have handled accounts for sole traders, limited companies and contractors for over seven years, so when something comes up, you get a straight answer fast. That kind of access is what most sole traders say they wished they had sooner.

Fixed fees with no hidden additions

You know what you pay before we start. There are no surprise invoices because a deadline crept up or a conversation ran long. Fixed fees mean you can budget properly and there is no reason to avoid asking a question in case it costs you more. That removes a lot of the friction that builds up between sole traders and their accountants.

Your records are kept MTD-compliant from day one

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is mandatory from April 2026 for sole traders with income over £50,000, and the threshold is set to fall further. Only 25% of sole traders had signed up as of early 2026, which means the majority are behind. I set up your software correctly the first time and keep your quarterly submissions on schedule, so compliance is never something you have to chase.

GETTING STARTED

How it works

Getting your accounting sorted is a straightforward four-step process – nothing complicated, nothing that takes over your week.

01

Book a free call

We have a short call where I get to know your situation – what you earn, how you currently track your income and expenses, and what deadlines are coming up. There is no obligation and no sales pitch. It is just a chance to make sure I am the right fit for you.

02

I review your current setup

If you have existing records in a spreadsheet or accounting software, I go through them and flag anything that needs tidying before we move forward. If you are starting from scratch, I set everything up from the beginning. Either way, you know exactly where things stand.

03

Your cloud accounting is set up properly

I configure your QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Xero or Sage account to match how your business works – categories set correctly, bank feeds connected and MTD compliance built in from the start. You get a short walkthrough so you understand what you are looking at.

04

I take care of it from there

Once everything is in place, I manage your bookkeeping, quarterly updates and annual return personally. You focus on your work. I handle the deadlines, the filings and any questions that come up with HMRC along the way.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

From 6 April 2026, sole traders with income over £50,000 must use MTD-compatible software to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold drops to £30,000 in subsequent years. If you are close to or above these figures, it is worth getting the right software in place now rather than scrambling closer to the deadline.
Yes. Most sole traders I work with come to me with a spreadsheet that has done its job up to a point. I go through what you have, identify anything that needs correcting and move everything into a proper cloud accounting system. You do not need to start over or do the migration yourself.
I am a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and FreeAgent Partner, and I am proficient in Xero and Sage too. The software I recommend depends on how your business works – some sole traders suit FreeAgent for its simplicity, others prefer QuickBooks for its reporting. We decide together on the free call.
You would not be the first. HMRC does not consider honest mistakes an excuse, but getting things correct going forward – and amending prior returns where needed – is always better than leaving errors in place. I will tell you plainly what needs fixing and handle it without making you feel like you should have known better.
